Theatre company delivers educational workshops to children in Cannock

Deputy Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime Dave Evans visited a school in Hednesford to see the work of a theatre company which delivers educational workshops for young people.

Loudmouth Theatre Productions were given over £18,000 by Staffordshire Commissioner Ben Adams through the Cannock Community Safety Partnership to provide the workshops for primary, secondary and non-mainstream students across the district.

Deputy Commissioner Dave Evans attended Staffordshire University Academy in Hednesford where the children took part in Loudmouth’s ‘Working for Marcus’ programme.

The programme explored a wide range of issues including child sexual exploitation, grooming, exploitation into County Lines and knife crime, extremism and alcohol abuse.

Deputy Commissioner Dave Evans said: “The topics explored in the ‘Working for Marcus’ workshop are often extremely difficult to talk about with young people, particularly in a traditional school setting.

“I’m pleased that Loudmouth have been awarded the Locality Deal funding so that children can be informed about these issues in an engaging and interactive way.”

Other programmes run by Loudmouth include topics like bullying, online safety, domestic abuse and mental wellbeing.

Councillor David Williams, Portfolio Leader for Community Wellbeing said: “These innovative workshops demonstrate how creative approaches can tackle serious issues affecting our young people.

“As the Community Wellbeing Portfolio Leader, I’ve seen first-hand how early intervention and education are crucial in preventing harm. Loudmouth’s work with our schools exemplifies the kind of partnership working that makes a real difference – engaging young people on challenging topics like exploitation and knife crime in ways that truly resonate.

“This investment through our Community Safety Partnership reflects our commitment to protecting vulnerable young people and building a safer, healthier Cannock Chase.”
