Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime Ben Adams has launched his refreshed plans for Police and Fire, which provide the strategic direction for how both services should be delivered over the next four years.
The Police & Crime Plan, and Fire & Rescue Plan, have been developed following widespread consultation with members of the public, partners and stakeholders, which saw over 1,600 people share their feedback.
Staffordshire Commissioner Ben Adams said: “I’ve listened to local people in developing these plans, to ensure the priorities they contain match the concerns of our communities across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
“These plans are informed by our communities’ expectations: good quality services which respond quickly and effectively, coupled with prevention work to keep people safe. An expectation that people will be treated with courtesy and respect, that victims will be kept informed, and that crime and ASB in their neighbourhoods will be addressed.
“The services cannot do all this by themselves – community safety is something we can only achieve together with partners including health, councils, the criminal justice system, community groups and volunteers. My plans highlight this.”
The Police & Crime Plan focuses on four key priority areas:
- An outstanding local Police service – understanding what matters to communities and proactively solving their concerns. Being easy to contact, focused on the needs of victims and providing excellent customer service
- Supporting victims – treating people with respect and empathy, with high quality, specialist support services to help them cope and recover from the impact of crime and ASB
- Preventing and protecting – intervening early, ensuring people are appropriately safeguarded and receive the help and support they need. Supporting people to make life choices that reduce offending or reoffending
- Impactful partnerships – bringing partners together to prevent crime and ASB, protecting people from harm, supporting those affected and delivering justice
The Fire & Rescue Plan focuses on three key priority areas:
- An outstanding Fire & Rescue service – responding to changing demands so risk is managed, community and firefighter safety is prioritised, and high levels of public confidence and trust in the service are maintained
- Preventing – providing early help to individuals, families and communities to keep people safe from fires and other incidents so they feel safer and there is less pressure on fire response services
- Protecting – protecting people, premises and the environment through education, advice, support and the use of regulatory and enforcement powers
Staffordshire Police, and Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service, will now develop strategic operational plans, setting out in detail how they will deliver against the Commissioner’s priorities.
