The Staffordshire Commissioner’s Office is working with the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to make Staffordshire one of the safest places to do business.
Deputy Commissioner Sue Arnold, who leads on business crime on behalf of Staffordshire Commissioner Matthew Ellis, met with interim LEP chair Alun Rogers to discuss the role of the LEP in promoting the area as a place to do business.
The LEP is a business-led organisation whose role is to bring jobs and growth to the region.
Sue Arnold said: ‘Business crime is a very real threat and is far from a victimless crime – it can devastate companies of any size, in any industry. By working together with our partners, we can ensure we develop a consistent approach to business crime across Staffordshire.’
Alun Rogers added: ‘The Commissioner’s office has developed a number of nationally leading programmes that continue the trend of Staffordshire leading the country by example.
‘The LEP is proud to work with a forward-thinking partner that supports business in a wide range of areas from cyber crime, modern slavery and domestic abuse to ensure our employers are the best prepared and that Staffordshire is the best place to set up and grow a business.’
Tackling business crime is an important part of the Commissioner’s Safer, Fairer United Communities strategy. As part of this wider activity, the Commissioner’s Office has appointed Staffordshire University to research business crime in the county.
The research will inform the development of the Business Crime Strategy and help to deliver the Commissioner’s vision to prevent businesses becoming victims of crime through interventions they can easily access and use.
