Over £13,000 profit was raised for the Staffordshire Police Cadets at a recent fundraising event held at Chillington Hall – the home of cadet trustee John Giffard.
Last week’s successful event was staged by Deputy Police, Fire and Rescue and Crime Commissioner Sue Arnold as part of ongoing fundraising efforts for the cadets’ service.
The fundraising dinner saw over 120 guests, including local dignitaries pay to enjoy a meal and entertainment by the Fingask Follies, a four piece singing and acting group who perform across Scotland and England. Further money was raised by auctioning off donated items.
All proceeds from the event will go direct to the cadet service, which will help to expand the scheme, so that every young person across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent has the chance to become a cadet. The cadet programme is run by a charity so any donation, big or small, is hugely appreciated.
There are currently 10 successful units across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent with demand for more in the future.
The Staffordshire Police Cadets are a uniformed and disciplined service for Staffordshire youngsters between 13 and 17-years-old which strengthens links between the police and young people, develops leadership skills, improves confidence and provides a sense of civic pride. They’re not training to be police officers, but they are learning the skills they need for the future.
Sue Arnold said: ‘As Deputy Commissioner I’ve been delighted to oversee an initiative which is about engaging young people, some from challenging backgrounds, through a vibrant and positive programme.
‘I want to send a big thank you to all who attended and supported this event. It was a great success, made even better by the fact such a tremendous amount of money was raised for this fantastic cause which is expanding and giving more young lives opportunities.
‘It was fantastic to see so many cadets in their uniform at the event. They are a credit to themselves, their families and their communities.’
