Staffordshire’s 33 new police cadets and their families attended Police Headquarters this week to join the area’s first Cadet Scheme.
Fulfilling another election promise, Matthew Ellis, Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner opened the evening by welcoming the young people and their families.
Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis said: “There was a real buzz about the event last night, these youngsters are the bright future of Staffordshire and this is a great opportunity for young people to engage more with the police than they have done in years.
“There’s been a real sense of excitement about the evening and our new cadets clearly couldn’t wait to get into their new uniform”.
“And what’s even better the cadet scheme isn’t going to cost the taxpayers of Staffordshire anything. Local businesses have come forward to support the scheme”.
Chief Constable Mike Cunningham said: “I am really pleased to welcome our first cadets to the police family. These youngsters will be working closely with our officers and staff, all who have volunteered to spend their free time on this worthwhile scheme. This is the first scheme to be launched in Staffordshire and will expand over the coming months”.
A police cadet is typically 10 to 17 years old and will be able to learn new skills such as developing leadership skills, increasing their physical fitness, attending local events, doing community work and becoming the best they can through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
