The latest meeting of the Staffordshire Police, Fire and Crime Panel will be broadcast live online from 2pm on Monday 13 July, with the public able to watch updates from Staffordshire Commissioner Matthew Ellis about the performance of the police and fire and rescue service.
As a result of the pandemic, the panel will meet virtually instead of face to face, but the focus on openness and transparency will remain the same.
Topics covered at the meeting will include:
• An update on how both services have responded to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic
• An update on the delivery of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue’s Corporate Safety Plan
• Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) report on the Peel Inspection of Staffordshire Police
• Questions for the Commissioner from members of the public and the panel
Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire and Rescue and Crime, Matthew Ellis said: ‘This is about being open, honest and transparent, so our communities can have confidence in the service delivered by police and fire and rescue here.
‘The pandemic has meant we’re having to do things differently, but it’s more important than ever in these challenging times that people have the opportunity to ask questions and keep up to date on key issues.
‘The panel plays an important role in scrutinising decisions I make, and supporting the development of plans for both services, to ensure they provide the best outcomes for the people of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.’
Accountability, transparency and openness in the police and fire and rescue service are key priorities for the Commissioner, ensuring the people of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are better informed and involved in how services are delivered.
The panel was created in 2012 at the same time as the role of Police and Crime Commissioner, to represent the public in holding the Commissioner to account.
Panel members include representatives from each of the principal local authorities in the county, together with two independent members.
The next meeting will be live streamed at 2pm on Monday 13 July.
