Staffordshire Police Young Cadets on parade

Stafford youngsters given chance to become cadets

Young people in Stafford are being invited to enrol on the successful Police Cadet Scheme launched by Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Ellis.

The programme recently celebrated its second anniversary and currently has flourishing Cadets units in Stoke-on-Trent, Cannock, Tamworth and Stafford.

The Stafford Unit, which was the first to launch in 2013, is looking for new recruits aged 13 to 17 who live in the Stafford area.

Deputy PCC Sue Arnold said: “The Cadet scheme is all about giving advantages to young people through allowing them to gain life skills such as responsibility and discipline.

“This is not about youngsters from elite and advantaged backgrounds. It’s about giving young people an opportunity to build character and a sense of civic duty, no matter what their challenges.

“The Stafford Unit has been a great success since its launch two years ago and, with a number of Cadets completing their time in the unit, there’s a great opportunity to welcome in some new members.”

Cadets work towards nationally recognised qualifications in team-working, citizenship and personal skills following a detailed programme that covers every aspect of policing and how they support the police in keeping our communities safe and reassured.

Young people interested in joining the Stafford Unit can email cadets@staffordshire.pnn.police.uk for an application form and more details.

Businesses are also invited to become Patrons or Sponsors to help fund uniforms and equipment for the Cadets. In return for becoming a Patron, businesses’ contributions are recognised through publicity, a framed certificate and other opportunities.
