The major contribution Special Constables make to communities throughout Staffordshire and beyond was honoured at a service at the National Memorial Arboretum.
Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Arnold joined Staffordshire Specials for the re-dedication of a memorial stone on Sunday, 14 June.
The stone bears the crest of all four West Midlands regional forces, including Staffordshire, and an inscription marking the service of Special officers including those who have died in service.
Mrs Arnold said: “It was a privilege to attend such a poignant service that was beautifully organised by Specials from Tamworth.
“Day in day out, Specials make a massive contribution to society and provide an important link between the police and local communities.
“The service was a powerful reminder that Specials voluntarily go beyond the call of duty to serve local people.”
A new approach to the Special Constabulary in Staffordshire was launched in 2014 to improve the service even further including longer and more comprehensive training for existing and new Specials, better equipment and more chances to widen the policing activities they are involved with.
It is aimed at developing the Special Constabulary further and is believed to be the most ambitious in the country, strongly underpinning even better their role in supporting full-time regular police officers in Staffordshire.
There are currently over 400 Specials in Staffordshire. For more details on joining, visit www.StaffsSpecials.org
