Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis attended the Staffordshire Moorlands’ Parish Assembly on Thursday (20th) to speak about policing both locally and county-wide.

Mr Ellis met with parish representatives from across the district in the council chambers in Moorlands House, Stockwell Street, Leek.

He spoke about his vision for policing and community safety, including the growth of the Staffordshire Young Police Cadets Service and his technology plan to free up officer time to create thousands of extra hours of visible policing, before taking questions from the councillors and members of the public.

The Commissioner said: “Opportunities like this are crucial in delivering my key aims for policing in Staffordshire, especially when those in attendance have the chance to query my plans.

“There were good questions and debates and a good amount of support. I’m really pleased that people recognise what I’m trying to do.”

Mr Ellis went on to describe that more money than ever before is now available to local authorities through the new Commissioner’s Community Fund for projects and individuals to tackle crime.

Through three funding streams, this money will help deliver what’s important to local people based on the four priorities set out in the Commissioner’s Strategy – tackling the root causes of crime through early intervention, supporting victims and witnesses better, reducing reoffending and increasing public confidence.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council Chairman, Councillor Jim Davies, said: “It was good to see Mr Ellis here in the Moorlands and we appreciate the opportunity it presented for us and local residents to discuss his plans and local issues directly with him.

“I’d like to thank him for his clarity and transparency, which will enable us to hold him accountable, and look forward to seeing the results of these initiatives and the benefits they’ll bring to our communities.”
