Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis heard local people’s views first-hand at supermarket surgeries and a public meeting in Newcastle yesterday.
Mr Ellis held the ‘Let’s Talk’ surgeries at Sainsbury’s in Liverpool Road from 12noon to 1pm and then Asda on Wolstanton Retail Park from 1.30pm to. 2.30pm.
Later that day he held an open meeting at Newcastle Civic Offices on Merrial Street between 6pm and 7pm.
The events were the latest opportunity for people to tell Mr Ellis first-hand about crime and local policing and their experience of the criminal justice system. People were invited to come along to discuss any concerns they had about crime, policing and community safety with Mr Ellis.
The Commissioner said: “It was great to hear local shopper’s views at the two supermarket surgeries. I was pleased again that so many people were telling me what we are doing and already know about the work that is ongoing to spend their money better, join up services and get officers out of stations and on the streets.
“There was also a good turn out at the public meeting later in the day and I thoroughly enjoyed the questions and answers. We also got positive feedback about the service the public are getting from their local police.
“I was really pleased with the response from the public – we have a good story to tell.”
During the day, the Commissioner also attended a meeting with community safety partners and learnt about work to tackle anti-social behaviour through restorative justice in Silverdale.
Mr Ellis will next hold ‘Let’s Talk’ supermarket surgeries this Friday, 4 July, at Asda on Scotia Road in Tunstall between 12noon and 1pm and then outside Home Bargains on Alexandra Retail Park, Tunstall from 1.15pm to 2.15pm.
He will then hold an open meeting at The Co-operative Academy on Westport Road, Tunstall between 6pm and 7pm. For more details on ‘Let’s Talk’ visit http://www.staffordshire-pcc.gov.uk/lets-talk/
