PCC spends night with Stafford street pastors

Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis learned at first-hand about the hard work of Stafford Street Pastors last weekend.

The volunteers from local churches have been offering late-night support to people in Stafford town centre since 2009.

Mr Ellis spent several hours on a busy Saturday evening with the team as they engaged with staff at pubs, clubs and takeaways, as well as assisting revellers.

He said: “Volunteers play a huge role in society and in local communities.

“The Street Pastors are a voluntary faith group who are doing tremendous work, making sure people who might have had a few too many to drink stay safe, handing out flip flops and helping people get home if they need it.

“They’re doing a really good work which is brilliant for Stafford and brilliant for the town centre.”

Street Pastors is a national charity which has teams of volunteers operating throughout the country.
