Matthew Ellis, Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, has welcomed the increase in patrols on the A500 in Staffordshire by the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) and the Highways England Traffic Officer Service (HETOs).
From Monday June 18, the partnership will assume primary responsibility for policing the major route, in addition to its current role patrolling the motorway network in Staffordshire and the West Midlands.
Mr Ellis said: ‘The A500 is a vital and extremely busy major route serving the north of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
‘The agreement to extend the existing Central Motorway Policing Group partnership between Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Police to cover the A500, as well as the motorways, will mean a significant increase in police activity on this important route.
‘The work of CMPG has been acclaimed both from a road safety perspective but also dealing with criminality using our major arterial routes. This is very important in every way and I am delighted.’
