The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire once again demonstrated its commitment to young people at a prestigious Prince’s Trust ceremony.
Chief Executive, Glynn Dixon attended the Prince’s Trust and TK Maxx & HomeSense Awards in Birmingham to present the Community Impact Award which is sponsored by the OPCC.
The OPCC supports a range of youth activities from the Youth Commission to Staffordshire Police Cadets which were initiated by the PCC, Matthew Ellis in 2013.
The award recognises the positive contribution young people make to their local community whilst developing their own skills. The winners were Team 4 from Birmingham, who chose to renovate a Scout hut to create a place where children can go to learn and have fun.
Describing the challenge, Team 4 member, Phrankeigh Denny, 19, from Birmingham, said:
‘There were holes in the floor and there was uneven paving outside which meant it wasn’t safe so fixing them was our first priority. We’re really pleased with how it turned out and the Scout group have had loads of new signs-ups as a result, which is great.’
The youngsters raised £850 to pay for materials and also had some donated by local businesses.
Speaking about the award, Glynn Dixon said:
‘We’re delighted to support the Prince’s Trust. These awards demonstrate the good work being done by young people across our region. Here in Staffordshire, the PCC is always keen to encourage the next generation of citizens.’
