Living the wildlife

Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis last night attended a meeting with Staffordshire Wildlife and Countryside Protection Group.  The group brings together a variety of agencies, businesses and members of the public who are working together, sharing information to help tackle crime and community safety issues that specifically affect our rural communities.

Mr Ellis said: “Last night was really interesting, this group is making a real difference to people who live in our rural areas.  There is some really effective hitech policing going on using smarter technology as a trial and already the results are encouraging, with a raft of prosecutions already underway.

“This type of crime can have a real impact on our rural communities and in many cases affects people’s livelihoods.  This is vital work that Staffordshire Wildlife and Countryside are doing and with the recruitment of 200 “Community” Special Constables on the horizon, who will be dedicated to specific areas, this work will be further supported.  I am really encouraged by their success so far.”
