Youngsters in South Staffordshire were given the opportunity to take part in a taster session for a free activity-based workshop funded by Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Ellis.
The activity-based workshops are being delivered by Interact Arts as part of the Commissioner’s Space programme. They incorporate a wide range of structured fun activities aimed at developing new creative skills and building confidence.
Space was originally an activities scheme led by police in Staffordshire during the 80’s and 90’s aimed at engaging with young people. The new version of Space, coordinated by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, has now been refreshed and updated.
Mr Ellis has pledged up to £140,000 to fund activities with an aim to increase skills, improve health and general wellbeing by creating opportunities for young people to engage positively. Other activities in South Staffordshire include Multi-skills, Netball, Circuits, Boxercise, Football, Body Combat and Street Dancing.
The Space programme, which will finish on Friday 4 September, is aimed at 11-17 year olds and will offer a wide range of events and activities across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas.
Mr Ellis said: “The workshops are something a bit different from the usual sporting activities and give youngsters the opportunity to build their creative skills in a fun environment.”
“It was wonderful to see young people engaged in activities, having fun and enjoying themselves.”
Frank Conlan of Interact Arts said: “Space is a great opportunity for young people to experience a great amount of free activities – making it accessible to youngsters who may not otherwise be able to take part.”
“It’s an exciting way that young people aged between 11-17 years of age can take part in structured fun activities, meet others and improve their confidence and skills.”
