A food-packaging equipment company became the latest business to sponsor Staffordshire Police Cadets following excellent service from police.

After suffering a theft, Reiser UK was so impressed by the police response that it donated £500 to Staffordshire Police Cadets, the uniformed service set up to strengthen links between the police and young people by Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis.
The Milton Keynes-based business was hit with the theft of a £20,000 shrink-wrap machine from a company in Four Ashes, in South Staffordshire, in November 2013. But the machine, which had been leased, was recovered and returned to Reiser by PC Carl Paton from South Staffordshire Local Policing Team after a warrant was executed in Darlaston, West Midlands.
The donation will help fund the ongoing roll-out of the Cadets’ programme across Staffordshire following the launch of successful units in Stafford and Cannock, with a third starting in the next few weeks in Stoke-on-Trent.
Deputy PCC Sue Arnold, who is leading the Cadets’ scheme on behalf of Mr Ellis, said:
“The Cadets’ service is all about giving advantages to young people – some from challenging backgrounds – who through a positive and vibrant programme can learn how to become responsible citizens.
“We’re very grateful for Reiser’s generous donation which will make a big difference to young people’s lives through the Cadets service. The fact that it came as a result of some excellent police work is the icing on the cake.”
Reiser Managing Director Ken Mossford said: “We wanted to say a big ‘thank you’ to Carl for his determination to find and recover our equipment.
“Cadets services like the one in Staffordshire are doing a fantastic job at engaging young people, so it was our pleasure to make a donation.”
The Commissioner has stated that he will not redirect money that’s used for frontline policing to fund the Cadets Service, so donations are used to fund uniforms, equipment and transport for the youngsters. The service is funded through the Staffordshire Commissioner’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Fund which is a registered charity.
Further Patrons and Sponsors are needed to fund the Cadets Service as it grows. In return for becoming a Patron, businesses’ contributions are recognised through publicity, a framed certificate and other opportunities. For more details visit www.staffordshire-pcc.gov.uk/police-cadets
