Mrs Arnold attended the Staffordshire Business Festival event on Tuesday 15th November to talk with members of the business community about business crime, cyber safety and the work in Staffordshire to support domestic abuse victims.

Businesses were informed of the top ten tips to help them stay safe online, including, having strong passwords, using anti-virus software and firewalls and ensuring staff are aware of phishing emails and online security.

Mrs Arnold, said: “The internet and its development brings opportunity but has also brought new, changing threats from crime and criminals. The presentations that were given today were a fantastic reminder of how important it is to make sure we stay safe online.

“I would like to thank Internet Central and the businesses who attended today for their warm welcome and for inviting me as their guest speaker at their event.”

Scott James Head of Sales at Internet Central said: “We are delighted to have welcomed Sue Arnold as a guest speaker at our cybercrime event. We are in an ever changing environment and the objective of today’s event was to illustrate the subsequent dangers posed. We hope to continue and forge a strong partnership with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Staffordshire Police to ensure that we, as a team, are best placed to help and protect Staffordshire businesses.”

Cybercrime is a crime such as fraud, bullying, theft or grooming that is committed online using a device that can access the web, such as smartphones, tablets, computers or other devices. Cybercrime also includes crimes against your computer or device such as contaminating or corrupting it with viruses or taking-over your social media profile, email account or your website.

Cybercrime is a growing area of concern across the country with people and businesses becoming victims and losing money. But the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire and Staffordshire Police are taking action and have recently launched the Cyber Safe Staffordshire campaign to raise awareness about cybercrime and how people and businesses can protect themselves and their families online.

As part of this campaign a piece of work has is being carried out to determine the real impact that cybercrime has in Staffordshire and Stoke-on Trent.
