Customer service must come first

Customer service must be at the heart of the criminal justice system, Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis said today.

Speaking to the BBC this morning, Mr Ellis said: “We need to focus on customer service which is central to making the system work and satisfying people.

“For too long people have had to fit around the criminal justice system rather than the system fitting them.

“Victims and witnesses often have to deal with a myriad of organisations which are fragmented and anything but user friendly.

“That’s why we are going to launch a victims’ gateway which will be a single contact point where services wrap around victims and witnesses.

“There must be a whole-system approach with public services working collaboratively to common agreed outcomes that make a difference to local people.”

Customer service is central to The Commissioner’s new Safer, Fairer, United Communities strategy which is open for public consultation until the end of August.

The strategy is the biggest opportunity yet to shape the future of Staffordshire and make sure taxpayers’ money is spent better to protect front-line services and keep police officers on the street.

It can be viewed in full at www.staffordshire-pcc.gov.uk where people can also watch an animated video called ‘Meet Jen’ which focuses on how the strategy will affect the life of an ordinary Staffordshire citizen.

People can get involved now in a variety of ways and have their say – including joining the conversation on facebook.com/staffordshirepcc or on Twitter @StaffsPCC.
