Codsall Cadets Celebrate One Year Anniversary

Codsall Police Cadets were put through their paces during a visit by Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis, as they celebrated their first anniversary.

Mr Ellis praised the unit for how far they had come in such a short time, as they went through a drill in front of a specially invited audience, including Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) Nick Adderley, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Sue Arnold and Cadet Trustee John Giffard.

‘When I had the idea for the cadets, it was all about investing in the young people of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, helping them reach their full potential and grow into good citizens of the future,’ said Mr Ellis.

‘We now have close to 200 cadets and although Codsall is one of our smallest units, it’s a testament to what can be achieved and how the cadets, can transform young lives. My aim over this term is to see the number of cadets double.

‘I’ve seen young people from all backgrounds; grow in confidence immeasurably from not saying boo to a goose one minute to playing vital supportive roles at major events. I’m sure Codsall Cadets will continue to go from strength to strength and I’d like to thank all the volunteers for everything they have done so far to make it possible.’

Mr Ellis also paid particular thanks to his deputy Sue Arnold and Superintendent Elliot Sharrard-Williams for all they had done to make the cadets a success.

Special Sergeant Kevin Elscey started up the Codsall unit with just six cadets exactly a year ago and proudly presented them for inspection to Mr Ellis and ACC Adderley at the celebration at Codsall Community High school in front of their parents and cadets trustee John Giffard.
