Thistley Hough Academy Boxing project

Boxing club awarded funding

A Penkhull based boxing project has won funding from Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis’ People Power Fund.

Thistley Hough Academy and Right Stuff boxing will provide opportunities for young people to get involved in a positive community activity whilst educating young people about race/hate crime and anti-social behaviour

The project has been awarded £2,900 to run sessions during the school summer holiday.

Mr Ellis said: “It’s fantastic to see the work that’s being done here and the results it has so far. The dedication of staff and volunteers really impressed me.

“Projects like this are engaging young local people, giving them a chance to keep active whilst teaching them new and important skills.”

PC Andy Whitehall, project organiser said: “The Funding provided by the Police and Crime Commissioner is making a massive difference to the lives of the young people who attend the boxing club. They come from numerous different ethnic back grounds and the project is bringing them together, giving them a sense of pride and belonging in their local community.”

The next round of funding began on Friday 1 August and will close on Sunday 14 September. To find out more visit www.staffordshire-pcc.gov.uk/fund
