A Stoke-on-Trent sports club has been awarded £2,022 from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s People Power Fund to help reduce anti-social behaviour.
Trubshaw Cross Ladsanddads club works with over 2,000 young people encouraging them to get involved in sport by offering them active, enjoyable and productive activities.
Unfortunately the club experienced over 100 acts of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage each year and desperately needed fencing to protect the club buildings. Since installing the security measures in April 2015 there have been no incidents meaning the funds regularly put aside to repair damage can now be put back into improving the club.
Mr Ellis said: “I am so pleased to hear that the measures put in place to reduce the anti-social behaviour the club were experiencing has made such a difference to the Trubshaw Ladsanddads club.
“With the additional funds they are now able to save each year they will be able to encourage more and more young people to take part in positive activities.”
Andy Salt, Chairman of Trubshaw Cross Ladsanddads club, said: “Without the support of the Commissioner’s People Power Fund we would not have been able to secure our out building and facilities to protect the club from anti-social behaviour.
“We can now, with confidence, re direct funds set aside for repairing vandalism to the maintenance and development of our site. The knock-on effect of this is that we do not have to increase the fees we have to charge the families of the young people using our facility.”
The window for the next round of applications for People Power Funding opens on 1 March and runs until 14 April.
People Power applications need to be sponsored by the group’s local Neighbourhood Police Officer or Police Community Support Officer. More details, including application forms and an animated video about the fund, are available now at www.staffordshire-pcc.gov.uk/fund
