Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis said: “The police informed me soon after the incident happened. This is a formal matter for the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and they have also been informed.
“On a local basis, in due course, I will want the independent Ethics, Transparency and Audit Panel (ETAP) to also look at this incident in the light of the work they did regarding Taser use in Staffordshire five months ago. To that end I have informed the Chairman of the ETAP as a matter of courtesy.
“It would be inappropriate for me to comment further on an ongoing investigation which must now run its course. Clearly, it’s immensely sad when someone loses their life in any circumstance and there will be a formal process which must and will be followed in this case.”
