Mr Ellis spoke to shoppers at Asda and listened to what the people of Tunstall had to say about policing in their area, before hosting a public meeting for local people later in the day.

The meetings followed similar successful Let’s Talk events across the County including the Staffordshire Moorlands, Rugeley, Burton, Cannock, Tamworth, Lichfield and this week he’s in Stafford on Wednesday (9th July).

Such events are just one element of engagement days held throughout Staffordshire by the Commissioner. To help spread the message of the PCC, Mr Ellis speaks with as many members of the public, local groups and local authorities as possible during the day.

The public meeting which took place at the Co-operative Academy in Tunstall began with Mr Ellis outlining his vision for policing and the criminal justice system to local people and Councillors who then asked questions on a range of topics including the Staffordshire Police Cadets, funding and police officer numbers. The Commissioner talked about his plans to free up thousands of hours of local visible policing a week through investment in mobile technology for officers.

During the day, Mr Ellis also took part in a shift briefing with officers and then visited Middleport with PCSO Tichaona Nyamayaro to hear first-hand about Anti-Social Behaviour issues that have been experienced in the area.

Mr Ellis said: “It was a really good day in the North of Stoke. I was heartened to speak with so many people at Asda and the Co-operative Academy who already knew about the work we’re doing.

“These engagements events have proved really popular with people across Staffordshire and it was a great opportunity to find out what people in Stoke on Trent have to say about their experiences of policing and the criminal justice system.

“There were also more meetings throughout the day with local officers which I found fascinating and extremely useful.”
