PCC supports Stafford homeless charity

House of BreadPolice and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis has given his support to a Stafford charity that helps turn people’s lives around through a simple meal.

House of Bread was launched in 2010 by churches in Stafford and offers a home-cooked meal to over 100 homeless and vulnerable people every Wednesday.

Mr Ellis met with the charity last Friday, 23 January, after previously spending an evening in Stafford town centre with Stafford Street Pastors.

He said: “I really enjoyed going out with the Street Pastors in Stafford not long ago and saw some amazing work.  My eyes have been opened further with the additional work that House of Bread does.

“To say my mind has been moved in the last 12 months since taking up this role is an understatement and I’m going to look very closely at supporting, through the PCC’s office, House of Bread to further their work. I’m bowled by some of the opportunities to get people from a really bad situation into a better situation which is good for the individual and good for society in general.”

House of Bread Director Will Morris said: “People can be involved in the front line of the work that we do, or maybe they have skills in administration or management. Everybody has the capacity to be involved in this wonderful work and actually make a difference right here in Stafford right now.

“By simply sharing a meal with someone we can go on to see much more positive engagement with people’s lives at the speed that they want it to happen. It’s not all about quick fixes – it’s about coming alongside your neighbour and making a difference in Stafford.”
