PCC debates with students

Students put their questions to Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis during a lively debate yesterday (Thursday 7th November).

Mr Ellis spoke to over 100 young people on the Policing and Criminal Investigation course at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent.

Students had been given copies of the Commissioner’s Safer, Fairer, United Communities five-year strategy to read before the event.

Mr Ellis said: “I had a really good 90 minutes of debate with students from Staffordshire University.

“There was great interest – including some very testing questions I have to say – which helped to give a real insight into criminal justice.

“We covered a wide range of topics including recruitment, Special Constables, technology, preventing re-offending and joined-up working between agencies.”

After the debate, the Commissioner was given a tour of new facilities at the university’s Leek Road site.
