PCC Matthew Ellis with Community Speed Watch volunteers in Perton

PCC praises Community Speed Watch volunteers

Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis went out with volunteers who are helping to put the brakes on speeding motorists in South Staffordshire.

He saw Perton Community Speed Watch members in action yesterday afternoon, Monday 4 November.

The trained volunteers are part of an army of Speed Watch teams across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent who use hand held radar equipment at pre-identified locations to check vehicle speeds.

Mr Ellis said: “Volunteers play a huge part society and local communities through Speed Watch and other initiatives such as the Independent Custody Visitors scheme.

“Community Speed Watch has only been going for a few months in Perton but has already had a really positive impact which has led to more volunteers coming forward.

“The people I met are doing a great job to help tackle speeding in their community and make local roads safer for pedestrians, including children.

“They gave me feedback on a number of issues which I have taken on board and will now bring back to the force.”
