Matthew Ellis and Danny Flynn on the rooftop at YMCA North Staffordshire

PCC and YMCA work for better futures for young people

Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis will be working closely with YMCA North Staffordshire to make a positive impact on young people’s lives.

The Stoke-on-Trent based independent charity works with young people and communities to help them develop a better future for themselves and others.

Mr Ellis met with its Chief Executive Danny Flynn at the YMCA’s impressive facilities in Hanley on Thursday, 31 October.

The Commissioner said: “YMCA North Staffordshire has a fantastic track record at getting young people back into work.

“I’ve invited Danny to work with us – together we can help get more young people away from sometimes chaotic lives, crime and into mainstream employment.

“Intervening early to stop problems before they happen is not only better for the people involved but also the best way of reducing crime and making a positive impact on their communities for the long term.

“It was also great to see the excellent facilities that YMCA North Staffordshire has, including their fabulous rooftop conference room – which is available to hire!”

Danny Flynn said: “At the YMCA we are committed to ensuring young people have the opportunity to truly belong, contribute and thrive. We are therefore thrilled to be working alongside Matthew Ellis to ensure young people are able to reach their potential.”

Staffordshire was chosen as one of 20 ‘Pioneering Places’ nationally in August to work with the Early Intervention Foundation to deliver early intervention to best effect.
