Deputy Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Helen Fisher visited young people from The Prince’s Trust Team programme as they supported a summer school in Rugeley as part of their Community Project.
The Prince’s Trust is a youth charity which helps young people aged 11 to 30 get into jobs, education and training. Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service is actively engaged with the Trust, running programmes which typically support up to 200 young people each year.
As part of the Team Programme, young people must complete a Community Project. The young people chose to work with Vysions Youth Service summer programme at the Lea Hall Social Club, which offers a range of activities for 8 to 16-year-olds including multi-sports, a space dome, dance, arts and crafts, music workshops, a forest school and more.
The Prince’s Trust Team are supporting staff with the activities, helping to organise meal times and running the tuck shop.
Staffordshire’s Deputy Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Helen Fisher said: “The Prince’s Trust is a fantastic way for young people to improve their confidence by taking part in new experiences, helping them build a positive future in work, further education or training.
“It was wonderful to see the hard work and enthusiasm of the group as they supported other young people at the Vysions Youth Service summer programme, and I wish them every success they progress through the rest of their Team programme.”
Programme Leader Lauren Arbery said: “Although I’ve only worked with the Prince’s Trust for a short time, it’s clear just how important the Team Programme is for our young people. After the last few years, a lot of young people are struggling with mental health, their confidence or just generally feeling lost.
“They join our Team programme because we help to build their confidence and develop their skills. We work with them to set goals and help find the right path for them. We’re only on week five of our 12-week programme, but it’s amazing to see how far they’ve come in such a short space of time. I can’t wait to see them developing their confidence and skills further as they complete their Community Project!”
