Staffordshire Commissioner’s Office commended for commitment to transparency

The Staffordshire Commissioner’s Office has been awarded the CoPaCC Transparency Quality Mark for the fourth year in a row, demonstrating its commitment to making information easily available to the public.

Since 2013, CoPaCC – experts in police governance – have carried out annual assessments into how the offices of police and crime commissioners fulfil their statutory obligations for transparency.

The latest round of assessments took place during November and December 2020, with CoPaCC’s researcher acting as a ‘mystery shopper’ looking for the required information on the website of each office.

Last year CoPaCC introduced a higher pass threshold including a consideration of ease of use, so that as well as information being present and timely, it also had to be easy to find by a member of the public.

To qualify as easy to find, the information being searched should be posted in a logical section of the website with the navigation clearly labelled in plain English, avoiding technical jargon. The path to the information should take no more than three clicks by the user.
