Young people in Edingale bowled over by Space 2019

Staffordshire Commissioner Matthew Ellis joined youngsters in a game of cricket at a multi-sports session taking place at Edingale Village Hall, as part of the Space 2019 programme.

Space aims to provide fun, positive activities throughout the school summer holidays and gives young people from across the county the opportunity to build their confidence, develop life skills and improve their health and general wellbeing.

The programme was introduced by the Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire and Rescue and Crime with a view to bringing together public, voluntary and private sector organisations to help nurture, support and guide youngsters across the county.

Matthew said: “Space is about fun, learning, growing in confidence and making new friends. It was wonderful to see the young people getting active and enjoying themselves in such a healthy, positive way.

“Since its relaunch in 2015, the Space programme has gone from strength to strength. Last year almost 30,000 young people attended a huge range of activities and levels of anti-social behaviour dropped by around 40% during these weeks. Each year we receive very positive feedback from young people and I’d encourage anyone between 8 and 17 to get involved.”
