Cadets handed cash boost by former High Sheriff

The Staffordshire Police Cadets have been handed a cash boost of £1500 – thanks to the fundraising generosity of the former Staffordshire High Sheriff.

Humphrey Scott-Moncrieff and his wife Judy handed over a cheque to the Staffordshire Commissioner’s office, with the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Sue Arnold, receiving the cheque at the Potters Club in Stoke-on-Trent.

The money was raised through charitable events organised by the Scott-Moncrieffs during his term in office.

Mrs Arnold said: ‘This is a wonderful gesture by the (former) High Sheriff, who really bought into the rewarding and valuable work of the Staffordshire Police Cadets.

‘We’ve been very fortunate with the High Sheriffs with their generosity and philanthropy in supporting the work of the cadets.

‘Cadets fulfil a valued role in the county so any support we receive is always very welcome.’

Mr Scott-Moncrieff, who is also a cadets’ trustee, was the county’s High Sheriff between April 2017 and April 2018.

He said: ‘It is customary for the High Sheriff to hold various charitable events across the county during a term in office and my wife Judy worked hard to deliver these.

‘We had the High Sheriff’s train ride at Cheddleton, held an event at Granvilles in Stone, and staged many other events too. I’m also pleased to say the Community Foundation for Staffordshire matched the money we made.

‘I am very proud of the Staffordshire Police Cadets. They perform a fantastic role in the community but most people don’t appreciate or realise they rely on volunteer contributions – they are not financed by the police.’

Mr Scott-Moncrieff was succeeded by Pippa Gee in April.
