Matthew Ellis, Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, is urging people across the county to understand even more about the part everyone can play in defeating terrorism.
The Action Counters Terrorism campaign begins today, with Mr Ellis hoping the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent residents can do their bit by reporting suspicious behaviour and activity.
His words come as part of a month-long nationwide campaign to raise awareness.
Mr Ellis said: ‘The police and security services have been working flat out to protect us all from the risks of extremism and terrorism.
‘But the part communities can play is equally powerful. Reporting suspicious behaviour or activity to the police is vital. It may sometimes be difficult because it could be someone you know or even a family member.
‘Whatever is told to the police is treated in the strictest confidence and is thoroughly researched by experienced officers before any police action is taken.
‘Coming forward with concerns could save lives so do not worry about it turning out to be nothing. No call or click will be ignored and could be crucial.’
