The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner would like to hear your views and comments on the draft Safer, Fairer, United Communities Strategy 2016 – 2020.
This refreshed strategy focuses and builds on the same four priorities from 2013:
• Stop crime or harm earlier
• Support victims and witnesses
• Stop offending and reoffending
• Boost confidence in all we do
In addition, a fifth priority has also been added:
• Equip policing to tackle changing threats
Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire Matthew Ellis said: ‘Since 2013 when the original Safer, Fairer, United Communities strategy was published a significant amount of work has been done to improve the way policing and the wider system works in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. But there is still a lot more to be done.
‘This refreshed strategy builds on that and focusses on how public agencies, the charitable sector, other bodies and the public themselves can make a real and sustained difference to meet the challenges policing, criminal justice and public safety face in Staffordshire both now and in the future.
‘At its core the strategy sets out why services across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent need to work more effectively together to prevent crime or harm before it happens, rather than dealing with the consequences after it has. This also makes shrinking public finances go further and improves the chances of making our communities safer.
‘A continuing challenge is the need to reform the way the criminal justice system, made up of police, crown prosecutions and courts, works for local people. We must have a system that fits the needs of people rather than people having to fit the system.
Whilst the Victim Gateway has made a huge difference for victims and witnesses the wider criminal justice system still lets too many people down.
‘The Strategy is now out for consultation and I would be grateful if you could share your views on the priorities I have set out.’
Consultation is open until March 24th 2017 across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
The PCC would like to hear your comments on the draft strategy. Public sector bodies, local people, businesses, individuals and community groups, charities and academia… in fact all who are interested in making Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent safer and a better place to live and work.
The strategy could affect you, your family and your community – so please have your say and make your voice heard: www.staffordshire-pcc.gov.uk/strategy-2016
