Anti-Bullying Week is an annual UK event which aims to raise awareness of bullying of children and young people, in schools and elsewhere, and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it.
Sue Arnold, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire, said:
“Action against on line bullying is an important part of our cyber-safe-Staffordshire campaign so we fully support national anti-bullying week.
Bullying online is a crime. It can be issuing of blackmail/threats, abusive comments, spreading rumours, sharing embarrassing pictures or creating fake profiles on line and on social networking sites.
But help is at hand. Victims of cyber bullying may be unaware that if the bullying is taking place on a social networking site (Facebook, Twitter etc) you should contact them directly as they have policies in place to remove inappropriate material and if necessary, the bully’s account. If you are a child or young person then you can contact ChildLine for more help and guidance. In extreme cases if you believe this behaviour amounts to a criminal offence you can contact your local policing team via the non-emergency 101 number and report the matter.
Remember that what is illegal off line is also illegal on line”.
