Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner today praised the work of Staffordshire Police in what he called ‘difficult circumstances’. However, he also said there is more that needs to be done to meet changing crime types, greater complexity and increasing demand.
Mr Ellis was responding to a Report by Her Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary suggesting that the force is GOOD in the way it understands, deals with and plans for demand for services.
Mr Ellis said: “Even since 2013 the types and complexity of crime has changed immensely. Historic underinvestment in technology has also been a serious hindrance that has impacted on the productivity of policing.
“Officers and staff in Staffordshire have worked hard to be effective despite historic challenges and must be congratulated.
“The better financial position over the last few years and the multi-million pound investment I announced in new technology, particularly mobile working, is greatly enhancing the ability of policing here to meet growing demand and changing threats.
“The work of my office with Staffordshire Police will continue to grow the force’s capability and the dedicated efforts of the men and women involved in policing here will ensure the public remain safe in communities across Staffordshire.”
