Ben Adams and Jo Gideon talking during engagement event

Staffordshire Commissioner joins Jo Gideon MP on Bentilee walkabout

Staffordshire Commissioner Ben Adams and his deputy Helen Fisher visited Bentilee to meet residents and learn about the partnership work underway to address community issues like anti-social behaviour and speeding.

They were joined by Jo Gideon MP, the local neighbourhood policing team and a representative from the community safety partnership on a walk around the estate, where they talked to residents about life in the area.

After meeting Chief Inspector Rob Hessell at the Bentilee Neighbourhood Centre, they accompanied the partnership team to St Stephen’s Church, the Ten Count Boxing Club and the Volunteer Youth Club at the Pavilion.

Staffordshire’s Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner Ben Adams said: ‘I had a great morning walking around Bentilee with the local PCSOs and officers, but was also really pleased to be joined by Jo Gideon, the local MP.

‘It was a valuable opportunity to meet some great community groups, and hear directly from the residents about some of the issues on the estate, such as bikes, speeding and anti-social behaviour.

‘What’s clear is that there’s a really strong community spirit in Bentilee. It was good to meet the neighbourhood police team, and see how closely they work with the council and local residents, and the role they play in contributing to that strong sense of community.’

Jo Gideon MP said: ‘It was great to join the Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner, Ben Adams, and Deputy Commissioner Helen Fisher, alongside police officers, for a walk around Bentilee to meet local community groups, and to see the great work they are doing and find out how we can help with their various challenges.’

Having locally based police officers, who can listen to communities, understand and address local problems to help people feel safer, is a key part of the Staffordshire Commissioner’s Police & Crime Plan.
