Staffordshire Commissioner to review Fire & Rescue performance at public meeting

HMICFRS inspections, the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase Two Report and the 50th Anniversary of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are among the topics Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime Ben Adams will discuss with Chief Fire Officer Rob Barber at a public meeting on Thursday 7 November.

The Fire Public Performance Meeting will be broadcast live online from 2pm.

Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime Ben Adams said: “These meetings are an opportunity for the people of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to hear directly from their Chief Fire Officer about the work underway to keep us all safe.

“I’ll be asking him about what the Service is doing to ensure it can continue to meet today’s complex and evolving challenges, as well as the preventative partnership work to protect the most vulnerable in our communities.”

Topics discussed will include:

  • His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services’ (HMICFRS) inspection of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The service was assessed by the inspectorate on 11 different areas of review and was rated ‘outstanding’ in their response to major and multi-agency incidents.
  • The results from HMICFRS’ thematic inspection of the way misconduct is dealt with in Fire & Rescue Services in England. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were one of 10 fire and rescue services to take part in this thematic inspection back in November 2023.
  • The second phase of the Grenfell Tower report, which was published in September 2024. The report lists 58 recommendations that traverse a number of sectors. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have adopted 18 of these recommendations that are aimed at Fire and Rescue Services.
  • Fundraising and community events that have taken place to mark Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service’s 50th birthday. Over £28,000 has been raised for the Firefighters Charity between April and September 2024.
  • The ongoing success of the Service’s falls response team, which has supported the NHS by attending three calls per day on average since the service went live in December 2022
