This week is No More Week, a week to come together to raise awareness of domestic abuse and sexual violence. Staffordshire Commissioner Ben Adams is encouraging victims of domestic abuse to seek emotional and practical support from the New Era Domestic Abuse Victim Service.
Commissioned by the Staffordshire Commissioner, Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, New Era delivers free and confidential holistic support for all those affected by domestic abuse including adults, children and families.
Support is available for victims 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by phone or live webchat. The service also has dedicated specialist advisors working with LGBTQ+; Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) communities; male victims and older victims; as well as those with a disability.
New Era also provides a Behaviour Change service for anyone who is displaying unhealthy or abusive behaviour within their relationship and wants to change this. Specialist support is available for both adults and children.
From October 2023 – September 2025, New Era:
- Received just under 15,000 adult referrals into the Victims service
- Supported almost 3,000 child victims of domestic abuse
- Received over 1,100 adult referrals into the Behaviour Change service, with over 700 of these undergoing voluntary interventions
- Provided advice and guidance to over 320 children referred into the Behaviour Change service, with over 250 of these undergoing voluntary interventions.
CPD-Accredited training is also available to help employers support staff who may be experiencing domestic abuse, or who want help to change their own behaviours, feel supported in the workplace. Since 2017, over 550 Domestic Abuse (DA) in the Workplace Champions have been trained, from over 225 individual organisations.
Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Ben Adams said: “It can often be incredibly difficult for victims to seek help so it’s important they know they are not alone and can get support during time away from their partner – which in many cases the workplace may be the only time they have away from their partner.
“I urge employers to invest time into supporting their employees by working with New Era’s DA in the Workplace Programme.”
Superintendent Dave Kelsall, Head of Staffordshire Police’s Adult Public Protection Unit and Lead for Domestic Abuse said: “Domestic abuse affects every community, and No More Week is an important reminder that no one has to face it alone. Victims show immense courage in seeking help, and it is vital they know support is available whenever they need it, including in the workplace. The specialist, confidential services delivered by New Era provides a lifeline to adults, children and families across Staffordshire.
“Our commitment as a service is clear we will protect victims, challenge harmful behaviour, and work with partners to prevent abuse in all its forms. Importantly, support is also available for those who recognise their own behaviour is unhealthy or abusive and want to change it. Reaching out for help is a crucial step in breaking the cycle and creating safer relationships for the future.
“I would urge anyone experiencing domestic abuse, concerned about someone else, or worried about their own behaviour, to seek support. Help is available, and no one needs to face these challenges alone.”
Anthony Screen, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Resilience at Staffordshire County Council said: “Domestic abuse takes an enormous toll on people, and if you are living with it or rebuilding your life after it, I want you to know that you deserve safety, dignity and support.
“Our new Domestic Abuse Strategy strengthens early help, improves access to specialist services, and ensures agencies work together so you get the right support when you need it.
“If you are a person who is using abusive behaviour, change is possible. stopping abuse at its source protects victims and prevents further harm. If you recognise that you need help to change, help is available.
“Whoever you are, whatever your situation, please reach out. You will be listened to, and you will not face this alone.”
