Staffordshire’s Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Arnold has urged firms to seek help to combat the increasing problem of business crime.
Businesses and their employees who are victims of crime will not be forgotten, she told over 100 business people at the recent Let’s Do Business event at the Uttoxeter Racecourses.
Mrs Arnold spoke with numerous businesses about the importance of reporting crimes and the free training provided to support domestic abuse victims in the workplace.
The Business Crime Matters strategy, spearhead by the Deputy PCC, follows the commitment by Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis that businesses who are victims of crime will not be forgotten. Mr Ellis asked Sue Arnold to deliver this vital strategy due to her extensive commercial experience including her former role as president of Southern Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs Arnold is also leading the domestic abuse in the workplace programme to offer better service and support for victims of domestic abuse. This includes free training provided by Staffordshire Women’s Aid.
Mrs Arnold said: “The Lets Do Business event was a great opportunity to talk to local businesses to encourage them to report crimes and also support their staff.
“Companies can feel that crime against them is seen as victimless and that it is hard to get help if needed. We are calling for a new approach that treats business crime more seriously, where company owners get the support they need.
“Domestic abuse has a devastating impact on victims and can affect the whole of their lives – including their work. By signing up, businesses will go public with their commitment to tackling domestic abuse and show a clear commitment to supporting staff who are victims in a sensitive way.”
