Stafford Space activity hits the mark

The gloves were on at a boxing session in Stafford which proved a big hit with young people as part of Space 2022.

Deputy Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Helen Fisher dropped into the session, organised by the Right Stuff Boxing Club, to see young people trying their hand at the sport.

During the session she saw groups of young people put through their paces in a fun environment as part of Space 2022.

The Space summer programme, which runs from 25 July to 26 August, brings together public, voluntary and private sector organisations to provide support for potentially vulnerable young people to help increase skills, improve health and wellbeing and create opportunities with an additional aim of reducing levels of anti-social behaviour.

Deputy Commissioner, Helen Fisher said: “The passion and commitment shown by the young people at the Right Stuff Boxing session was fantastic to see. After a difficult two years it was wonderful they were getting active and enjoying themselves in such a healthy, positive way.

‘These activities are all about providing an opportunity for Staffordshire Police and partners to engage with young people who may be going through a difficult time to help nurture, support and develop them.’

Stafford Borough Council Deputy Leader, Councillor Jeremy Pert said: ‘The Space scheme is a vital lifeline which provides structured activities for many young people. Delivering sessions in partnership with a longstanding and multi award winning partner like the Right Stuff Boxing Club and the Staffordshire Commissioner’s Office is something we have been committed to for a long time.

‘These sessions not only give young people something to look forward to, it also gives them softer skills like empowerment as well as a booster to their physical fitness.’

Other activities taking place across Stafford include wildlife sessions, a climbing wall, fishing and plenty more boxing sessions.

Details of activities including how to book are available on the Space website so check out what’s going on in your area: www.staffordshirespace.uk
