A summer holiday club in Rugeley is the latest in a packed programme of fun activities for young people as part of Space 2021.
Deputy Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Helen Fisher dropped into the session, which was organised by the Central Co-operative Learning Trust (CCLT) and held at Redbrook Hayes primary school.
During the session, she saw a group of young people take part in a range of activities led by Burton Albion Community Trust, as well as an interactive session to help them brush up their skills in maths and English as part of the five weeks of Space 2021.
This year’s summer programme, which runs from 26 July to 27 August, brings together public, voluntary and private sector organisations to provide support for potentially vulnerable young people to help increase their skills, improve their health and wellbeing and create opportunities for them, with an additional aim of reducing levels of anti-social behaviour.
Deputy Commissioner Helen Fisher said: ‘It was wonderful to see the young people getting active at today’s summer holiday club in Rugeley. The pandemic has made the last 18 months hard for everyone, so it’s fantastic that they can be with their friends and enjoy themselves in such a positive and healthy way.
‘Activities like these are a great opportunity for Staffordshire Police and partners to engage with young people who may be having a difficult time, and help to nurture, support and develop them.’
Deb Bacon, Chief Operations Officer at CCLT, said: ‘We are so grateful for the support from Staffordshire Space. It has enabled our children to access high-quality holiday provision which also supports their learning and will contribute to helping them prepare for the new term in September.
‘The past 18 months have been very challenging for pupils, and we know that this holiday provision will have helped not only with their learning but importantly with their wellbeing too.’
Details of all the activities, including how to book and guidance around Covid-19, are available on the Space website, www.staffordshirespace.uk.
